Food holds a lot of emotional space for people. Unlike other animal species, humans really treat food as more than just sustenance to survive. The girlfriend in the story here orders takeout with her boyfriend. He does a nice gesture and offers to pay for it, but as the phrase goes, no good deed goes unpunished. Their food arrives, and he starts going in on her pasta, despite his perfectly good burger he ordered sitting right there. She gets upset at him and takes it away, he then tells her to relax since he paid for it. 

Telling a woman to "relax" when she's already heated is one of the worst mistakes a man can make. There's nothing more antagonizing than someone telling you to calm down or relax, it's so deflecting and hurtful.
